ABOUT ME
My background is in education and I spent many years working as a teacher and Head of House in a secondary school, with a responsibility for pastoral care and mental health. Through this role, I developed a passion for helping people become the best version of themselves and decided to train as a counsellor. I can honestly say that undertaking this training has been the most challenging, yet rewarding and enriching experience I have ever encountered.
I have experience of working in agencies as a volunteer counsellor, including Redlands Counselling and the YMCA, and most recently I have worked as a counsellor and Mental Health Lead within a Secondary school. I currently work as a tutor for adults on counselling courses alongside my Private Practice.
I have personal experience of caring responsibilities, both as a child and as an adult, and brought this experience into my school role where I was the Lead Practitioner for Young Carers for a number of years.
In addition to carrying out the counselling role within school, I also sought out the best interventions for young people within the community. I have built good relationships with many professionals, including CAMHS, and am confident and competent in making onward referrals when counselling is not the best option.
I have a strong belief in maintaining an excellent level of self-care; in order to offer the best to you, I recognise the vital importance of taking care of me. I achieve this through engaging in activities that help me unwind and destress; walking in nature, photography and playing and listening to music. I also attend regular Supervision sessions with an experienced supervisor which enables me to consider alternative perspectives and ensure I am always working safely, ethically and in the best informed manner possible.
